I have the best job in the world!

I started building speakers when I was in high school.

One day my best friend Scott called and asked me to come over. I remember walking around the back of his house and stopping dead in my tracks. Setting on his back porch were two giant plywood boxes. Each box had two fifteen inch speakers mounted in them. As soon as Scott saw me he dropped the needle on an album and a big wall of sound rolled across his yard and blew me away. The sound wrapped around me and I felt the beat thumping in my chest.

It was awesome… and I was hooked on speaker building!

I’m inspired by a time when audio gear was made with the best materials, attention to detail, and a sense of pride that is hard to find these days. Most manufacturers – and consumers – have drifted away from these standards… Ars Harmonia is for those who haven’t.

The speakers you see here are handcrafted by me in my small wood shop in Champaign, IL. I live in a house that is 113 years old in the old part of town known as ‘vintage Champaign’ with my wife and our two dogs Willie and Diego.

When you email ‘customer service’ you’re talking with me. When you post a comment on the Ars Harmonia Facebook page, you are talking to me. Nobody else. The 4″ full range driver I use is hand assembled and imported, but the cabinet lumber, packing materials, and everything else involved are all sourced and purchased within the USA. Ars Harmonia speakers aren’t made on an assembly line, they’re individually handcrafted at my assembly room table with passion and pride while listening to music on a newly finished pair of Taliesin speakers. Most evenings I’m still there working, but sometimes I just kick back with a favorite beverage and let the music carry me away.

When you purchase speakers at Ars Harmonia you’re supporting a small independent artist/craftsman and products made in the USA. Your purchase is the end result of researching, deliberating, designing, measuring, budgeting, sourcing, sweating, cussing, overcoming, rejoicing, and devising a method to the madness. You are buying a speaker as unique as the music you listen to and the artists who perform it.
